Established in 1979, the University of Algarve (UAlg) is an influential institution of higher education in Portugal, and particularly southern Portugal. With multiple campuses, UAlg now offers 44 undergraduate programs and 75 postgraduate programs, including both master’s and doctoral degrees.
Organization for the SAfA 2025 meeting is being led by the Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and the Evolution of Human Behavior (ICArEHB). ICArEHB is an organization of over 100 researchers and Ph.D. students at UAlg dedicated to the study of the ecological, biological, and cultural coevolution of modern humans. Recognized with the highest evaluation from the Portuguese National Science Foundation in 2019, ICArEHB has since solidified itself as a new and upcoming frontrunner in European archaeological science with a global impact in the field of human evolution studies.
